Biography:

Cailan Stan Ashcroft was born on Saturday, August 3rd, 1996. He is a middle child with an older sister and a younger brother. His father is a barrister and solicitor whose private practice fights for the interests of the Indiginous peoples of Canada. His mother worked in management at BC Rail, which was acquired by CN Rail in 2004, before retiring to take care of her children. Cailan grew up in Lions Bay - a small village that is not far from the downtown core of Vancouver and on the way to Whistler - in British Columbia, Canada. The spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, the Rocky Mountains, and the Gulf Islands are a likely source of his ambitions.

He attended Lions Bay Elementary School until 3rd grade and continued his education at Gleneagles Elementary in Horshoe Bay until 7th grade. For high school, he attended Rockridge Secondary School - where he achieved the highest academic and public service honours every year and learned to play all the brass instruments in both concert and jazz bands. He graduated the 12th grade in 2014. During his final year of high school, he worked in private wealth management and as a teller at BMO Financial Group in Caulfield Village. He also started a school newspaper titled The Raven in 11th grade, but he was not able to find successors to continue it upon his graduation.

He attended the Ivey Business School at Western University, where he graduated with distinction and an Honors Business Administration (HBA) degree 2018, and he completed his Master of Public Administration (MPA) graduate studies at the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania in 2021, where he received a Public Leadership and Service Fellowship that he used to help finance his internship at the United Nations.

He is a voracious reader that is proud to have consumed a significant portion of his life dedicated to this activity. His personal library currently consists of over 200 books.
